The current Pastoral Ministry Development Program (PMDP) has largely operated in its present form since the registration system was approved by the QB Assembly back in 2006. While the process provides a strong framework for accountability, feedback has highlighted opportunities to make it simpler, more relevant, and easier to complete.
This year also brings an exciting opportunity for Queensland Baptists (QB) as we are developing a new Customer Relationship Management (CRM) system. This provides a unique opportunity not only to improve the technology used for managing processes such as Registrations and the requirements of Registration but also gives us an opportunity to ask whether our current processes are the best way to support pastors and maintain appropriate ministry standards.
We have therefore undertaken a review of our processes and benchmarked them against other states in regards processes and expectations. This paper documents some of the proposed changes we would like to bring to our Registration and Re-Registration Processes.
The proposed changes are intended to move the PMDP from a periodic compliance exercise to a simple annual rhythm of planning, development, reflection and accountability. The proposed changes are detailed in a discussion paper which you can access via the link below.
This paper is being circulated across the QB movement for feedback. Feedback will be considered alongside the earlier input received from the Ministerial Services Committee, Regional Ministers and Church Support Leadership Group. A revised proposal will then be prepared for consideration by the Ministerial Services Committee in October 2026.
We particularly invite you to consider responding to the following questions.
1) What do you like about the proposal?
2) What don’t you like about the proposal?
3) What is confusing or needs clarification about the proposal?
4) What is missing or could be improved?
Feedback can be sent to registration@qb.org.au and should be received by close of business Friday 2nd of October.
